About 162-0

We keep score for a living — in our heads, in the margins, in the box scores we can't stop reading. This site started the way most box-score arguments do: with a number that refuses to happen. 162-0. A full modern season without a single loss. We built 162-0 because that line — 162 in the win column, a zero in the loss column — is the most impossible perfect record in sports, and we wanted to feel exactly how impossible it is.

The beauty and the brutality of 162

Football can finish a hot autumn undefeated. Basketball rips off streaks. Baseball plays nearly every day from late March into October, and the schedule is the one opponent nobody beats. The best regular season ever — the 2001 Seattle Mariners — won 116 games and still lost 46. The 1906 Cubs posted a .763 clip that modern teams can't touch, and still lost 36. Raise even a .700 team's per-game odds to the 162nd power and you land on a decimal with more zeros than a season has innings. That is the brutality. The beauty is that we run it anyway.

A scorekeeper's version

So we built one for people who love the long grind. Spin for a decade, draft nine legends by position, and let a full 154- or 162-game season play out game by game — tuned to baseball's real run environment, with era modifiers for the Year of the Pitcher, the launch-angle 2010s, and everything between. Every run is seeded, so the same seed always reproduces the same summer: the same draft board, the same schedule, the four-to-five run games, the tired August bullpen, and the one bad night that ends a perfect run at 148-1. Chasing 162-0 is a losing bet. We think that's the whole point.
